U.S. Attorney General for the District of Arizona Dennis K. Burke will headline a civil rights forum Oct. 6 in downtown Phoenix to discuss issues involving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.
The event marks the anniversary of a fatal attack on gay University of Wyoming student Matthew Shepard, who was targeted because of his sexual orientation.
The forum also will bring together community leaders and the Federal Bureau of Investigation to discuss the Department of Justice’s role in civil rights matters, inform people of their rights and the protections for gay, lesbian and transgendered people.
The event, free and open to the public, will run from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the ASU Mercado, Room C-145, 502 E. Monroe St.
