The move cripples the state agency, which advocates for movie and TV production in the state, a local film advocate said.
Tate confirmed the layoff in a statement released through the Arizona Production Association. “I do hope that the Arizona Production Association will continue their advocacy for their members and the many other professionals in Arizona whose voices need to be heard at the Capitol and in the Legislature,” Tate said in the statement. “I truly felt I was working on behalf of these many professionals in Arizona and firmly believe that Arizona needs the film, television, and media arts industries to be a strong and vibrant part of Arizona’s economy.”
An Arizona Department of Commerce representative would not discuss Tate’s status specifically but said layoffs were part of department-wide cuts. [Note: Read the full article at Director’s layoff a blow to Arizona Film Office]
