Planning continues on downtown Phoenix Luhrs Block restoration

[Source: Barbara Stocklin, City of Phoenix] — Staff from the City of Phoenix Historic Preservation Office and Development Services Department met with representatives from Hansji Hotels, the property owners of the Luhrs Block downtown, to discuss their site plan for a phase I and phase II project.  Site plan approval for a phase II project, which includes build-out of the entire block other then protected areas, will require design review by the Historic Preservation Commission per the city development agreement with the property owners.  The Commission’s review is tentatively scheduled for January 12, 2009.

  1. I love the Luhrs building. I’m so glad something is finally being done with them. I checked out the site for “Hansji Hotels” and it looks like they are long term players — that’s exactly what we need downtown. A company that is willing to stay in the game as the area develops. I can’t wait to see how this project turns out.

  2. With the condition of the economy, Phoenix needs to work hard to keep these projects on track. This building is a historic jewel, no doubt, but there has to be a balance between historic preservation and economic development. Now, more than ever, we need to do everything possible to facilitate economic development.
