[Source: John Stanley, Arizona Republic, June 6, 2008] — You don’t have to hit the highway to enjoy a satisfying road trip. Case in point: Central Avenue in Phoenix. Commuters drive the route so often they hardly even see it.
But if you look at it with fresh eyes, you realize there really are a lot of interesting things to see and do along the 14-mile stretch of Central Avenue that runs from Dobbins Road to Dunlap Avenue. Central actually extends about half a mile on each end, plus some non-contiguous segments farther north.
