Councilman Simplot new exec for multihousing group

[Source: Casey Newton, Arizona Republic, June 10, 2008] — The trade association representing apartments and rental housing in Arizona will be led by a member of the Phoenix City Council.  Councilman Tom Simplot, who represents central Phoenix, was named executive director of the Arizona Multihousing Association effective Monday.  “We’re excited to have someone of Tom’s caliber and expertise and enthusiasm,” said Mike Clow, AMA board chair.

Simplot, 47, is the former deputy director of the Home Builders Association of Central Arizona.  In his new role, he will oversee the AMA’s lobbying efforts at the Capitol as well as educational programs for its members.  “It’s one of those jobs that I always looked at as something that would be a great career decision for me,” Simplot said.  Simplot had been self-employed, selling real estate and consulting on federal issues.  He said he would give up those jobs as he takes over at the trade association.
