Downtown Voices statement on 2006 Phoenix Bond

The steering committee of the Downtown Voices Coalition has voted to support the 2006 City of Phoenix Bond Program.  “We support all seven bond propositions with the understanding that upon a positive vote by Phoenix residents, the process for their implementation remains open and inclusive, and encourages a substantial role for all community stakeholders,” said Steve Weiss, spokesperson for the coalition.

“It’s also important to our membership,” said Weiss, “that the projects and programs funded by the bond stay consistent with the priorities outlined in our August 2004 report, ‘Downtown Voices: Creating a Sustainable Downtown.’”

The coalition’s ten priorities are: (1) re-establish trust in the planning process, (2) insist on high quality design, (3) provide stronger incentives for locally owned businesses, (4) protect neighborhoods, (5) construct affordable housing, (6) preserve our heritage, (7) strengthen local arts and culture, (8) create inviting public spaces, (9) develop and promote diverse modes of transportation, and (10) embrace diversity and cultural inclusion.
