According to the State Historic Preservation Office, much of the physical/architectural integrity of the Sun Merc Building exists.  There will be a significant loss of original fabric if the proposed “facadomy” takes place.  Therefore, the building will become ineligible for the National Register of Historic Places if the project proceeds.
